What the calculator returns
Human Design treats transits differently from astrology. Where astrology reads aspects between transiting and natal planets, Human Design reads which I Ching hexagram gates the transiting planets currently occupy. The 64 gates of the bodygraph correspond to the 64 hexagrams. As the planets move through the zodiac, they activate different gates day by day.
The current activations section returns the active gate and line for each transiting planet, plus the center the gate belongs to. The engine flags whether the activated gate is one you already carry natally (which strengthens the gate) or one you don't carry (which temporarily lights up an open part of your design). It also flags activations in exalted or detriment planetary conditions — Ra Uru Hu's qualifier for the felt quality of the activation.
The temporary channels are the highest-leverage finding. When a transit completes one of your hanging gates, you gain access to a channel you don't normally carry. The energetic effect is real and noticeable: you may suddenly feel competent at something you usually struggle with, or sensitive to information you usually filter out. The temporary channel resolves when the transit moves on, usually within a day or two for the inner planets, longer for the outer.
The center changes section flags any centers temporarily defined or shifted by today's transits. An open center that becomes temporarily defined gives you a brief experience of what consistent definition feels like in that domain. Useful for understanding what you're sampling.
The daily theme summarises the strongest current activations into a single sentence. It's not a horoscope — it's a one-line orientation that tells you which center is most active today and which planet is driving the activation.
How transits interact with your design
The Human Design framework on transits is mechanical, not interpretive. Your design is fixed at birth — Type, Strategy, Authority, defined centers, defined channels — and remains the same throughout life. Transits don't change your design. They add temporary access to gates and channels you don't carry, and they amplify the gates you do carry.
The implication is that transits are best read as context, not as guidance. Your decisions still follow your Strategy and Authority. A Generator still waits to respond. A Projector still waits for the invitation. The transits explain why some days your sacral response feels louder or your emotional wave feels rougher — but the response is what you act on, not the transit.
Practitioners differ on whether to use transit information at all. The classical Ra Uru Hu position is that knowing the transit can be a distraction from the Strategy. The contemporary practitioner position uses the transit as descriptive context — knowing that today's emotional wave is sharper because the transiting Sun is in your Solar Plexus channel can be the difference between deciding the wave is wrong and waiting it out.
The temporary channel mechanic, in detail
Your natal bodygraph has hanging gates — gates that are defined for you but whose partner gate is not. The 39 in Root without a 55 in Solar Plexus, for example, leaves the Channel of Emoting incomplete. You experience the hanging gate as a persistent half-formed energy: provocation without spirit, in this case.
When a transiting planet sits in gate 55, the channel temporarily completes for you. The Root-Solar Plexus connection becomes defined for the duration of the transit. You may suddenly access full emotional provocation — both the structural pressure and the spirit it pressures into expression. When the planet moves on, the channel deactivates and the gate hangs again.
This is the most mechanically observable transit effect in Human Design. Practitioners learn to anticipate which transits will complete which of their hanging gates, and use the brief windows to do work that requires the temporarily-defined energy.
