Astrolium sets only the cookies it needs to run the service. No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking. Essential cookies keep the app working; analytics cookies, if you consent, tell us which pages load slowly or break. You can block or delete all of them at any time.
This page lists every cookie Astrolium places in your browser, the legal basis for each, and how to remove them. For how we handle your personal data more broadly, see the privacy policy. For GDPR rights and contact details, see the contact page.
1. What counts as a cookie
A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser by a website. Cookies can persist across sessions (stored until an expiry date) or disappear when you close the browser (session-only). Astrolium also uses localStorage for preference storage — this is noted in the table where relevant. localStorage is not a cookie but is governed by the same consent rules under ePrivacy.
2. Cookies Astrolium sets
The table below is the complete list, accurate as of the "last updated" date above. If we add a new cookie, we update this table before the cookie goes live.
| Cookie name | Purpose | Type | Duration | Opt-out available |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__session | Keeps you logged in to the Astrolium app. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. | Essential | 30 days of inactivity, then expires | No — removing it logs you out |
_vercel_analytics | Aggregate, anonymous page-view counts via Vercel Web Analytics. No IP storage, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting. | Analytics | Session | Yes — see Section 5 |
_ga | Google Analytics 4 client ID. Only present if you consented to analytics at first visit. | Analytics (consent) | 13 months | Yes — withdraw consent at any time via the cookie banner or browser settings |
_ga_* | GA4 session counter (companion to _ga). | Analytics (consent) | 13 months | Same as _ga |
mc_clarity | Microsoft Clarity session ID. Only present if you consented to analytics. Records anonymised scrolling and click patterns — no keystrokes, no form input. | Analytics (consent) | 1 year | Yes — withdraw consent or use browser settings |
astro_locale | Stores your chosen display language. Saved to localStorage, not a cookie. | Preference | Indefinite (localStorage) | Yes — clearing site data removes it |
astro_theme | Stores your light/dark preference. Saved to localStorage. | Preference | Indefinite (localStorage) | Yes — clearing site data removes it |
What is not there: no Facebook Pixel, no advertising ID, no Google Tag Manager container, no Hotjar, no FullStory, no Intercom, no Mixpanel, no affiliate tracking cookies.
3. Cookie categories and legal basis
Essential cookies are necessary for the service to function. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR — performance of a contract. These run without your consent because without them the login system does not work. Blocking them will break the Astrolium application.
Preference cookies (localStorage items) remember settings you choose. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest in not resetting your language and theme on every visit. These are stored locally on your device and never sent to our servers independently of your session.
Analytics cookies are placed only if you give consent at your first visit. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. They help us understand which pages are slow or confusing. If you do not consent, none of the analytics cookies in the table above are placed. Vercel's aggregate analytics runs in all cases because it does not use cookies and is covered under legitimate interest.
4. Cookie banner and consent
The cookie banner appears on first visit to Astrolium from a new browser or after clearing cookies. Accepting analytics sets the consent cookie and enables GA4 and Clarity. Declining, or simply closing the banner, means only essential cookies are placed.
You can change your choice at any time by clicking Cookie preferences in the footer.
5. How to disable or delete cookies
Every browser has a cookie management interface.
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
- Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
You can also delete all cookies for a single domain. In Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar → Cookies → astrolium.com → Remove.
Blocking essential cookies (__session) will prevent you from logging in to the Astrolium app. All other cookies can be blocked without affecting core functionality of the marketing site.
For analytics opt-out specifically:
- Google Analytics — install the GA opt-out browser add-on or decline via the cookie banner.
- Microsoft Clarity — decline via the cookie banner; there is no universal Clarity opt-out.
6. Third-party scripts and cookies
Astrolium loads the following third-party scripts that may set cookies:
- Vercel Analytics — no cookies; uses a server-side API. Vercel privacy policy.
- Google Analytics 4 — only loaded on consent. Google privacy policy.
- Microsoft Clarity — only loaded on consent. Microsoft privacy statement.
No other third-party scripts run on Astrolium marketing pages. The app at app.astrolium.com is a separate domain with its own cookie scope; this policy covers astrolium.com only.
7. Do Not Track
Astrolium reads the DNT: 1 browser header and treats it as a decline of all non-essential cookies. If your browser sends this header, analytics cookies are not placed even if you previously consented.
8. Changes to this policy
When we add a cookie, the table in Section 2 is updated before the cookie goes live. If we change the legal basis for any cookie category, we email customers at least 30 days before the change. Minor updates — rewording, adding clarification — are made without notice and reflected in the "last updated" date above.
