What is Astrocartography City Finder: Best Places by Life Area?

Astrolium's astrocartography city finder is a practitioner search tool. Feed in a client's chart, pick a life area (career, love, money, health, home, eight others), and the calculator scans 200+ candidate cities and returns the ten that best match that need. Use it when the consultation question is "where on Earth supports this specific theme in my chart," not when the answer is already in hand.

Astrolium's astrocartography city finder reads a birth chart and ranks 10 cities for any of 11 life areas: career, love, health, finance, relationships, home, creativity, spirituality, learning, identity, and overall. Inputs are birth date, time, and birthplace plus the chosen life area; the tool scans 200+ candidate cities worldwide, runs each through the full astrocartography math, and returns the ten with the strongest geometry for the area requested. Each city reports a 0–10 score, rank, dominant planetary contacts (AC/DC/MC/IC line types within roughly 700 km), and a one-line summary. Math runs on Swiss Ephemeris, accurate to under 1 arc second, with coordinates resolved against a 200,000-city gazetteer. Practitioners use the shortlist as input for the compare tool or for one-by-one drilling in the location calculator, which keeps relocation prep moving in a single workflow. Free, no account required.

The search uses the /v3/astrocartography/search-locations endpoint, which scans a curated set of 200+ candidate cities worldwide and runs each through the same astrocartography math the map calculator uses. Line orb is read out to roughly 700 km on the strongest contacts. The cities returned are the top 10 for the life area requested. Practitioners use the result as a shortlist to drop into the compare tool or score one by one in the calculator.

What you get

Each ranked city returns:

  • Rank and overall score — 1 to 10, with the score on a 0–10 scale (Astrolium's API normalises here for readability). Cities above 7.0 are unusually strong supports for the area you queried.
  • City, country, and timezone — useful for narrowing by visa or work-hour overlap before reading further.
  • Relocated highlights — a short list of the life areas where the planetary geometry at that city is strongest. A city queried for "career" may also flag relationships, communication, or wealth if those areas happen to land well there.
  • Primary planetary influences — the three strongest planetary lines acting on the city, each with the planet, line type (AC, MC, IC, DC), distance in km, strength, and a one-sentence meaning.
  • Summary — a one-paragraph read of the dominant contacts and what they tend to produce.

The top choice — the highest-scoring city — appears as a callout at the top of the results.

Choosing a life area

The eleven life-area options are not interchangeable. The cities that support career and the cities that support love tend to be different cities, because the planets that govern each area (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Moon) sit on different angles around the globe.

Career and finance — searches that prioritise Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn near the MC. These often surface cities in different countries entirely, because the MC longitude where Jupiter sits depends on birth time and is rarely close to home.

Love and relationships — these search for Venus and Moon contacts on the DC and 7th-house geometry. The two are related but not identical. Love optimises for romance signals; relationships rates partnerships of all kinds, including business.

Home and roots — searches for Moon and IC contacts. The cities that score well here often feel emotionally familiar on arrival, even on a first visit.

Identity and spirituality — searches for AC contacts (Sun, Moon, Mercury) and outer-planet harmonies (Jupiter, Neptune). Cities that score for identity often produce a clearer self-presentation; cities that score for spirituality tend to support inner work.

Overall — a balanced score across all areas. Useful when you have no specific reason to optimise and want the cities the chart supports broadly.

Run two or three searches with different purposes. The overlap matters: a city that appears in your top 10 for both career and home is a stronger relocation candidate than a city that ranks first for one and nowhere for the other.

Minimum score and excluding challenging

The advanced options control how the search filters its candidates:

  • Exclude challenging — skips cities where the dominant contacts are hard (Saturn near AC, Mars on MC, Pluto on DC). These cities can still produce results, but score low for ease. Turning the toggle on narrows the list to cities where the chart's support is more cleanly positive.
  • Minimum score (0–10) — sets a floor. If you only want cities scoring 5.0 or higher, the search will return fewer than 10 cities if the chart does not support that many at that level. Leave blank for the default behaviour, which always returns the top 10 regardless of absolute strength.

Searching by line type

Practitioners often phrase the brief in line-type shorthand. The search supports those framings inside the life-area picker.

Love line. Pick the love or relationships purpose. The search prioritises Venus and Moon contacts on the DC and AC, with Jupiter as a softener on the 7th-house axis. The cities returned are where the romance signal sits closest to the angles. Different from a flat "Venus line" scan because the search weighs the actual configuration, including hard contacts from Mars or Saturn that would pull the rating down.

Career line. Pick career or finance. The search reads MC contacts from Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn, plus AC-side reinforcement when the chart supports it. A high-scoring career city usually puts Jupiter or Sun within 2 degrees of the local Midheaven. Saturn on MC scores well too, with a "demanding" note: paran-grade pressure, not ease.

Money line. Use the finance purpose. The search weighs Jupiter and Venus on the 2nd-house axis and any benefic reinforcement on MC. Money cities and career cities overlap but are not identical; running both purposes side by side often surfaces a useful split.

The line-type shorthand is a way into the same engine. The underlying scoring treats each city as a full configuration, not a single line.

After the search

The search is the start of a relocation read, not the end. Use it to surface candidates, then drop the top three into the compare tool for a head-to-head, or score them one at a time in the calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How does the search rank cities?
The search reads your birth chart, computes the astrocartography lines for every candidate city, and scores each city against the life area you selected. Strong, supportive planetary contacts on the relevant angle (Venus and Jupiter near AC or MC for career, Moon and Venus for love and home) raise the score; hard contacts from Saturn, Mars, or Pluto lower it. Each city returns an overall score on a 0–10 scale and the primary planetary influences shaping it.
Which life areas can I optimise for?
Eleven options: overall, career, love, relationships, health, finance, home, creativity, spirituality, learning, and identity. Pick the area you actually care about — career and love often produce very different city lists for the same chart, because Venus and Jupiter rarely land on the same angles. Run two or three searches with different purposes to see where each area pulls you.
Does a high score mean I should move there?
No. A high score means the planetary geometry at that city supports the area you queried. Whether to move depends on visa, work, family, language, and a dozen other factors astrology has no view on. Treat a top-ranked city as a green flag for further investigation, not as a relocation prescription. The score is one input, not the decision.
Why does my birth time matter?
Astrocartography lines depend on local sidereal time at birth. A 4-minute error shifts every line by about 1 degree of longitude (roughly 110 km at the equator). If your birth time is uncertain, expect candidate cities to wobble — a city that scores 6.8 with one time may score 5.4 with another. The search still works without a precise time, but the rankings tighten when the time is accurate.
What does 'exclude challenging' do in advanced options?
When enabled, the search filters out cities where the dominant planetary contacts are hard — Saturn near AC, Mars on the MC, Pluto on the DC. These cities can still be productive (Saturn lines are often where people do their defining work) but tend to score low for ease of living. Leave the toggle off if you want to see the full ranking, including the challenging cities. Turn it on if you only want cities the chart supports cleanly.
